City of Hope has inspired scientific endeavors through their courageous pursuit of research and medical possibilities. Routinely creating new frontiers where road blocks once stood, City of Hope, as their name suggests, offers hope where there was none.

It is City of Hope’s commitment to developing new ideas that defy convention that inspired Rock & Republic’s founder, Michael Ball to participate in this event. Being one of a few institutions that conducts cutting-edge research, manufactures biologics, tests ideas and treats patients at one facility; City of Hope is a trailblazer.

We honor City of Hope not because of their scientific breakthroughs alone. We instead honor them because of their unwavering spirit, passion and dedication to saving lives and improving the quality of life for patients everywhere — these humanistic values are at the core of Rock & Republic’s Rock the Cure initiative.

ABOUT CITY OF HOPE

City of Hope is a biomedical research and treatment center dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Designated by the National Cancer Institute as one of only 39 Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the U.S., City of Hope has generated numerous scientific breakthroughs and pioneered countless life-saving therapies. City of Hope’s contributions to eradicating and preventing cancer and other life-threatening diseases has impacted patient care worldwide since its founding in 1913.

Cancer drugs, such as Herceptin® and Rituxan®, as well as the development of synthetic human insulin for diabetes and the utilization of robotic technology to improve cancer treatment, are based upon the pioneering research of City of Hope investigators.

City of Hope is also home to one of the world's most successful bone marrow and blood stem cell transplant programs, now in operation for more than 30 years. When the total number of bone marrow transplant patients is calculated, City of Hope has saved over 19,000 years of lives.

ABOUT DR. MICHAEL JENSON

Dr. Michael Jensen, Associate Chair of the Division of Cancer Immunotherapeutics & Tumor Immunology, leads the cellular immunotherapy program at City of Hope. One of the most exciting programs currently underway, cellular immunotherapy is developing technology to reprogram T-cells from cancer patients in order to eradicate cancer without the need for radiation or chemotherapy.

To date, Dr. Jensen's pioneering technology has allowed the institution to isolate patients' immune cells and then genetically engineer them to attack cancer cells. Under his leadership, City of Hope has conducted the first-ever FDA-authorized clinical trials using reprogrammed T-cell therapy for lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and glioma.
